What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
As far back as I can recall, I have been fascinated with the feeling of being suspended in the air & flying. I went to a P!nk concert a few years ago where she did a lot of aerial performances all over the arena. I had no idea at the time what she was doing or what it was called but I was mesmerized. A few internet searches later, I found Bumbershoot & signed up for a ‘Try-It-Out’ Silks class & have been taking classes since!
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
Rope! I appreciate the stability &... it’s just cool. :D However, Slings is quickly becoming a close 2nd favorite.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
The people. Everyone (coaches & students alike) are incredibly positive, inclusive & supportive. I also love how aerial is such a creative work-out that challenges me both physically & mentally.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I enjoy taking my bulldog, Petunia, to the park & on other adventures. I love to travel, explore new places & spent time with friends & family.
What is your favorite dessert?
Not a picky gal here…. However strawberry pretzel dessert or chocolate covered salted caramels are always winners in my book.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
This one is tricky …. I try to remember & “hear†all the kind encouragement from coaches & peers:
• Be kind to yourself
• Everyone has an “off†day which is ok
• Listen to your body
• You may not be able to do this ‘yet’ but someday you will
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
Current favorite is Star in the Sling since it is a relatively new accomplishment for me. I have a love/dislike relationship with straddle inversions. :)
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
So hard to choose just one! All of Bumbershoot would need to come in order to have a proper circus!
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
There was a Straddle Up Power class with Coach Kim last year where we were all part of some shenanigans in brainstorming the creation of an App for all of Kim’s creative descriptions for moves (aka..cat puke muscles, stretch our paws & many other good ones) along with her famous & loved positive encouragements. I believe it was going to be called ‘Coaching with Kim’. So look for it in your mobile app store real soon. ;)
On a slightly more serious note, just reflecting back on where I was when I first came to Bumbershoot versus where I am today & appreciating the amount of confidence & progress that I have made. Easy to forget but so important to remember.
