What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
The summer after I finished graduate school and before I was working full time I had a little to much time on my hands, my husband told me I needed to find a hobby. I found Bumbershoot on Groupon and after my first silks class was hooked.
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
I finally signed up for slings about six months ago. I would see Coty teaching class and really wanted to try it. Turns out I'm obsessed. I always though of aerial as a cool workout but something about slings make me want to just keep playing.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
The environment is so welcoming! I have never been to another aerial gym but I hate feeling judged or scrutinized when I am exercising/ learning new things. The support is overwhelming, even from people you have never met.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I work as a nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit. When I am not at work or Bumbershoot I am trying to figure out this adulting thing. I recently started vegan cooking, because vegetables are good for you?
What is your favorite dessert?
My mom's cookies straight out of the oven, sill hot and soft.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
Is it over yet? The harder it is the better I feel after class. I've been known to stand in a hot shower for way too long after a tough class.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
360? Dives scare me, but I love them, I am learning to love Salto. Superman... that back of the knee bounce gets old.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
This is not a fair question! Ashley Skouby, she really pushes me to do better and be better. Plus we have a laugh or two along the way.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
Well I have yet to perform... The first time I climbed up and down the silk twice to move up levels the entire gym cheered for me, not just my class. I did not think I could do it but I did, with a dramatic collapse when I got back down.
