What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
I was going through my quarter life crisis and needed a new hobby to distract myself. When I was looking for a yoga class, I somehow came across the Bumbershoot website and was sold! It took another three years for me to work up the nerve to attend my first yoga class, though.
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
Silks!
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
I love that the group of people is so diverse, & I love the way that aerial arts is a celebration of all skills and body types.
Some people are stronger while others are more flexible. Everyone has a strength that is showcased in one way or another, & one skill is not valued over the other. ...but my absolute favorite thing might be the fact that I now have an answer when I'm in a group ice breaker and asked to say something interesting about myself!
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I am a stereotypical dorky librarian by day, and I spend a lot of time making bad dewey decimal number jokes, crafting, & looking at pictures of baked goods on social media. I also love to get lost running outside, ride my bike, and obsess over my dog and brag about him like he's my honor roll child.
What is your favorite dessert?
Sprinkles + anything = better
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
I just remind myself how crazy it is that we all have the ability to climb, swing, go upside down, wrap ourselves up, & drop into really cool shapes. It's easy to take that for granted when you do it every week, so sometimes I just have to take a step back and remind myself just how amazing we all are for even attempting to do these things.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I love working on wheel downs and stacking drops on top of each other. I'm sure I have a least favorite, too, but if I do, I've suppressed the memory enough to forget about it!
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
I don't think I could choose just one person, so I'll go ahead and say I'd like to bring the person who is best at rigging. Or whoever has the cutest dog!
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel pretty badass when my family came to my first showcase performance, and after the show, my brother-in-law asked me how many pull ups I could do.
