What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
I was going through some intense life changes and really needed something new in my life to focus on. What's better than circus training when you feel like running away and joining the circus. ;)
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
I've now tried everything except rope (it's on my list) and really enjoy all of them, but my love is Trapeze. I love the momentum. It's probably the closest I can get to flying.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
The supportive atmosphere of the coaches and students. Everyone is so encouraging, accepting and hardworking. I instantly feel my mood lift when I get there. It is my happy place.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I hang out with my 13 year old son, work as a children's therapist, and enjoy other hobbies like bicycling, hiking, playing my ukulele, and just hanging out in my hammock.
What is your favorite dessert?
I have a disturbing love for chocolate. It doesn't matter what the desert is as long as chocolate is involved. Seriously. It's a problem.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
Well, I have to work hard to combat the initial negative thoughts that go through my mind, but I end up telling myself that even when I'm struggling with a particular skill, every attempt makes my stronger.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I really like the seahorse. I think it's because I struggled with it for so long that I have a lot of satisfaction when I do it correctly. My least favorite trick is ankle hangs. Oh the pain!!!! They are my current nemesis, but maybe one day they will be my new favorite trick. (Right now I highly doubt it) ;)
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
I cant answer this!! There is no one person. Seriously, I love every coach I've ever had the pleasure of working with, so that answer would change depending on who I'm currently being coached by. Ha ha! (Does that make me fickle?) As far as students go, I can't answer that either. So I'm going to cheat and say my fellow showcase act partners. Molly McMurphy, Jenny Boeckmann, and Tina Winkler Meyer. Working hard with people really makes for fun bonding moments.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
I don't think I have one favorite memory. I love Bumbershoot. I love how supportive everyone is. I love the satisfaction that comes with achieving a skill that I never thought I would master. I love being able to pour the support and encouragement back into the aerial community that has been given to me.
