What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
I live near the studio so I had driven by it a dozen times before I looked online to see what "aerial arts" even meant. Then, I went to a try-it-out workshop offered at Dimvaloo and signed up for a Silks session almost immediately after!
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
I am really into Slings right now, but I never stray too long from Silks.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
There is an undercurrent of positivity, respect, humor, and really amazing work ethic throughout the studio pretty much all the time.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I’ve got a full-time gig in development for a non-profit organization and teach group fitness classes at the YMCA a few times a week. I am a big fan of live music, sports, pubs, and breakfast food (all together, in various combinations, or separately), so I try to fit those things into my life as often as possible.
What is your favorite dessert?
I rarely turn away from any desserts, but I cannot resist the pull of Snickers in any form - ice cream bar, cheesecake, cupcake, classic, mini, etc.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
"That was rough." or something similar, but I usually have to acknowledge it out loud and make a ridiculous and dramatic face (think Lion's Breath if you are into yoga). Then I can usually let it go and get back to the "I can do some pretty cool stuff even if I can't do all the cool stuff yet" mentality.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I like spinning a lot, so changing shapes while spinning is my favorite.
Trapeze is my least favorite - it's just not my jam.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
Bumbershoot is full of adventure-seekers and wanderers, everyone is invited!
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
Most of the people in my very first Silks Intro class still frequent Bumbershoot and I am often reminded how supportive they were. My favorite memory is that unexpected and immediate kindness and camaraderie.
