Carol St. Amour
What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
My mom signed me up for a class because I was too nervous.
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
It changes often! I started with silks and then I fell in love with hoop. Currently my favorite is slings but I'm starting rope soon so who knows.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
The support I feel from fellow students and coaches. No matter what level I was at I always felt inspired and encouraged by the positive energy at Bumbershoot.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I have a degree in dance and am a professional dancer with Leverage Dance Theatre. We do a lot of site specific dance so I'm often still climbing and hanging off of things. I'm a burlesque performer and amateur costume maker. I also work at a child care center holding beautiful angel babies.
What is your favorite dessert?
Chocolate chip cookies and a cold glass of milk.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
That it's okay for me to not be perfect. I think about what isn't working and how I can try differently next time. There's some days I just give myself credit for getting to class.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I don't have a least favorite trick. Truly, I love it all. For awhile my favorite trick was this fancy thing in Silks 3 to get to cross back straddle that I struggled with so much that I renamed it The Devil. I've now heard a few students and teachers also call this trick The Devil so I'm glad that's spread.
I love drops on Slings and spinning in Hoop.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
My aerial girlfriend, Christine. We are a packaged deal at this point.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
I'm hoping that when I perform aerial for the first time this Friday that it will be my new favorite memory.
