What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
I was actually working an event on Cherokee Street and saw Sunny and another performer on lyra (at the time thought it was a hula hoop suspended in the air?...wasn't sure), but I remember being mesmerized and thinking how beautiful and graceful they looked/were. I spoke to Sunny after the show and she told me about Bumbershoot and how I could take classes there. It took me a couple months to get up the courage to check it out, but I finally did around my birthday about 3 years ago and fell in love immediately. Haven't been able to stop since!
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
I would say silks since that's where I started and spend most of my time, but I have a love/hate relationship with rope since it pushes me the most, and lyra definitely makes me feel more graceful and creative. Long story short, I love it all.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
I am always learning more about myself, my strengths, my limits and my state of mind. Some days I feel completely strong and other days I do not, but I try not to give up or get down on myself no matter how I feel.
I also love the people and atmosphere, I always forget about external events while I'm there, which is much needed!
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I am currently training for a half ironman so I have been spending a lot of time doing that. I'm actually on my way to California to race in one now! However, when I return, I will be spending a lot of time doing yoga, relaxing, and spending time with friends.
What is your favorite dessert?
I love cupcakes. I get cravings some times and ride around the city to find the best ones.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
"Today is just an off day, you're strong and will get it next time, like you have done many times before".
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I really love any drops or rotations. Right now I am trying to figure out salto into tick tock to star, and love that. Least favorite right now will be hip hop in rope, it's really giving me a run for my money.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
Ohh that's a hard one...coaches or students? If it was a coach, it would be a very hard decision but Sunny stands out since she has so much charisma and I feel like travels as much as I do! Student would probably be Molly J since we met in straddle power hour and have become good friends. Can I just take everyone though? That would be so much fun.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
My first performance, the last showcase, was with a bunch of extremely talented and strong women and was so much fun for me. I loved being able to perform with them. My favorite part would be us throwing glitter everywhere and having to pick those tiny glitter things up every time, and people still finding the remnants of them to this day. :)
