What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
I first heard about Bumbershoot a few years ago from a friend who knew Joelle's family from when he was a kid. Then I sought out the website to learn about what Bumbershoot had to offer. Soon after, I signed up for a silks workshop, and I absolutely loved it! I was looking for a creative outlet and a fun style of exercise - aerial gives me both!
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
Though I have done some trapeze, and even dabbled in hoop, my favorite has always been the sling! I love the supportive shape, like you have with a trapeze, mixed with the flexibility of the fabric, like you have with silks.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
My favorite thing is constantly being able to challenge myself. It feels great to come away from a class knowing I just conquered a really hard trick!
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I have a regular 9-5 job that keeps me busy most of the time. Another major hobby I have is burlesque dancing, which I hope to someday combine with my aerial skills. I also love hanging out and playing with my dog, Thor!
What is your favorite dessert?
You know that triple chocolate lava cake thing at Applebee's? Yeah, that.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
I tell myself that these things take time, and some tricks or techniques take more practice than others. We all have our own strengths, and if I work hard enough, in time, I can turn those tough tricks that feel like weaknesses at first into strengths that I'm really proud of.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I love doing superman drop from multiple wraps - being up that high is crazy, but so much fun! There's a windmill drop I recently learned that is a lot of fun, too. I'm not sure I have a least favorite, but I've recently been learning belays on slings - they're super squeezy, so that's been tough so far.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
Oh my goodness...can't I bring all the Slingers with me?!
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
Not a specific memory, but the general feeling after accomplishing my first solo performance was incredible.
