What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
After moving to St Louis, I was looking for a new hobby that would be fun and also a workout. I struggled to find anything for awhile since I was focusing on gymnastics, but it was only available for children. I then went to see Cirque du Soleil and thought it was so beautiful, I had to do it! I got home and on my computer, I don't remember what I googled but Bumbershoot came up! I signed up for a silks and trapeze intro workshop and fell in love with it!
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
Silks
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
The atmosphere! Everyone is so friendly, helpful, and encouraging, from instructors to students. I love that instructors always say something positive when we train, it really makes me want to improve.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I am a social worker, I work in research. When I am not working or in the air, I enjoy baking and spending time with my husband and cats.
What is your favorite dessert?
Un truffé au chocolat, a French dessert made mostly of chocolate.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
I look back on all the progress I made and remind myself than one bad day doesn't mean I am losing my strength. Having a bad day is part of practice and I will be better next time. I then tend to practice what I struggled with at open aerial.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
I love the feeling when doing a superman drop. My least favorite would have to be the ankle hang, I have yet to find the way to make less painful.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
I think I would have to take Jerome so I can continue taking silks classes. Plus he is an artist, so if we get bored he could draw a comic book, caricatures, or something.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
The first time I did my straddle without using my leg to help me. I was so happy and proud, it was such a great feeling to see my peers and instructors being excited for me and getting high-fives from them!
