What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
I had a friend from the climbing gym who was also taking classes at Bumbershoot. As soon as she told me what it is that happens here, I was sold.
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
I love rope best, but I really enjoy silks too.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
I love how it feels to have just successfully finished a new trick or hard sequence. The exhilaration, the tiredness, the sense of accomplishment, the camaraderie with your fellow students and instructor are all amazing.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
I fill my time on the ground gardening, woodworking, making and/or consuming good food and drinks, and listening/dancing to good music. In my spare time, I study and treat cancer, currently I focus on the genetics of infant leukemia.
What is your favorite dessert?
A warm chocolate chip cookie is like nothing else in this world. I eat them by the pan.
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
Most all of my days in class are tough. This is part of what I love about it.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
This changes a lot for me. Right now my favorite and least favorite are the same: Hip-key roll-up. Favorite because I think it looks awesome and requires a lot of coordination and good timing. Least favorite because I can't do it (probably because of the coordination and timing required)
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
If the desert island has a palm tree with a professionally-rigged rope on it, then I am taking Amy so that I can keep taking classes. If it doesn't have such a tree, then I am taking Tom, so he can rig it for me. I will then have to muddle my way through lessons as best I can.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
My favorite memory is coming back to classes after a long break after an injury (not bumbershoot caused). It was great to be back with friends, working on accomplishing amazing and fun feats of athleticism.
