What brought you to Bumbershoot Aerial Arts?
My friends invited my roommate and I to a Try-It-Out Trapeze class last year and we both signed up for a classes the very next day. We have been hooked ever since.
What is your favorite apparatus to work on?
I like all the appratuses I have tried so far as they all present their unique challenges and I am looking forward to trying out Slings and Chains in the near future. It is difficult to pick just one favorite, but although I began on Trapeze, Silks was what attracted me to Aerial Arts in the first place and I am currently having a lot fun exploring them.
What is your favorite thing about Bumbershoot?
My favorite thing about Bumbershoot is the people who make this place so special: both instructors and students create an incredibly positive and supportive atmosphere I have never found anywhere else. No matter the day I have before coming in for a class I am always confident that I will leave happy and optimistic every time and I am never disappointed.
What kinds of things do you do when you aren’t hanging in the air?
Besides Aerial Arts in my free time I study martial arts, read and struggle to keep up with my favorite TV shows.
What is your favorite dessert?
My roommate Thomas makes an amazing vegan chocolate cake. At times half of it mysteriously disappears the night it was made before it ever sees the inside of the fridge...
When you are having a tough day in class, what do you tell yourself?
Whenever I have a tough day in class I remember that although I have specific goals I work towards in mind, the journey to those goals is what keeps me coming back to Bumershoot week after week. For me the value of this journey is actually largely independent of my personal successes, but is instead rooted in sharing my path with like-minded individuals all striving for common goals in a unique atmosphere of mutual respect and encouragement.
What is your favorite trick? Least favorite?
My favorite trick is the Iron Cross. I am yet to find one I could truthfully call my least favorite.
If you could run away to a desert island with one person from Bumbershoot who would it be?
Meg.
Do you have a favorite memory from class or performing?
After my first Aerial Fitness class on my way home I was exhausted, yet relaxed and happy. For the rest of the night everything seemed clear and easy -- I have never felt anything like this before. In my mind this feeling of peaceful lucidity has become synonymous with Bumbershoot.
